Chesapeake plans to light up downtown tonight

Chesapeake Energy said this morning it expects to close on the $104 million purchase of its new digs, the former Pier 1 Building in downtown Fort Worth, tonight and plans to re-light the top of the building to celebrate.

Aubrey McClendon, the company's chief executive, is expected to be on hand and help flip the switch once the sun goes down tonight.

Other big wigs from the city, including Mayor Mike Moncrief and a few council members, are also expected to attend.

The Oklahoma City-based drilling company has had its Texas headquarters in the D.R. Horton Building for the past few years. But it announced on March 31 the purchase of Pier 1 Imports' 20-story office building, which sits just west of the RadioShack campus along the Trinity River.

The 460,000-square-foot building opened in 2004 with a new mark on the downtown landscape by bathing the top of the modernistic high-rise in white light. But in order to save money, Pier 1 shut the powerful floodlights last summer and never turned them on since then.

Perfect timing. On the night of the Gas Drilling Task Farce public hearings, Chesapeake is once again, "Doing" Fort Worth in grand style.

With the flip of a switch, Chesapeake's supreme commander, Aubrey (Adolf) McClendon, his propaganda minister, Julie (Joseph) Wilson and their water carrier, Mike (Herman) Moncrief, flip the middle finger to the citizens of Dirty Ol' Town.

Their environmental crimes against humanity deserve more intense scrutiny than the Task Farce can ever accomplish. With the complicity of city council and the city attorney they continue to FUBAR Fort Worth.

I vow to keep the the klieg lights pointed in their direction.

Haw wasteful! Just another indication that Chesapeake cares nothing about our environment! Wasting energy and creating even more light pollution just to make a big show. They disgust me!

Well of course! This is just rich people flaunting their wealth by burning electricity that the rest of us are having a difficult time paying for because of the high price of natural gas and the huge added expense of $4.00 per gallon gasolene...thanks to other companies that are completely out of touch with the rest of America. Mike Moncrief should be ashamed to take part in this obvious display of waste of energy.

Lies...lies.. and more taxes from us. Moncrief and his "hitler youth group" of fecal matter followers push how good this is for all of us. Anyone check the roads where their trucks have been hauling sewer water lately ? Oh, that is not in the city budget as it falls to the counties and the state to make those repairs! How about the fires and danger from the additional pipelines ? Moncrief isn't worried as it is not within 600 feet of his bedroom walls. The FW city council is just greedy and think we are all stupid and apathetic. Wrong again DA! We need another revolution starting with this city hall of tax and spend for their pet projects that endanger us and our familys for their fun. I want to keep my money instead of paying it to those jerks at city hall. Get out of my life!

Leave it to Chesapeake to waste energy while tooting their own horn. At least Pier 1 had the good sense not to waste the energy on "lighting up" downtown. Downtown areas should be turning OFF lighting that is not essential to pedestrian safety. Good grief McClendon...is there no need to the ego?

Google TxSharon and look for comments about her bile on Panhandle Truth Squad. Ask the Wise County Dempcratic Chairs what they think about her (not good)? Check out www.txsharonlies.blogspot.com

This lady has issues as does Don Young for not telling the truth about most issues.

Uh, Linda - Pier One lit up downtown until they ran out of money. Maybe you need to stick to Arlington issues!
