Question of the Day: The Really Old Guy Edition

Belinjj

Go ahead and slap me around for being a Gen Xer with zero appreciation for history but, whenever somebody brings up legendary Dolphins coach Don Shula, my mind immediately thinks "Oh yeah, he's the guy who did not win a championship with Dan Marino as quarterback".

Add One Of The Few NFL Types Willing To Call A Cheat A Cheat * to his resume.

I realize many columnists, bloggers, et al, have noted that Shula has a dog in this hunt. Pats coach Bill Belichick and his Patriots have a chance to take down 17-0, a record clung to for dear life by Shula and players on that Dolphins team. Do I think said Dolphins look a little like that really cantankerous old neighbor that drives everybody nuts with good-old-days talk? Yes. But Shula is right on this and, thank goodness, somebody has the guts to take on The Incredible New England Spin Machine.

So your turn: Do you agree with Shula? Does Spygate taint whatever New England does this season?

* I would have linked to the original N.Y. Daily News story but for some reason my Mac (computer, not husband) crashes every time I try to go to that website. Any ideas, why?

Comments

Real World Comments: I haven't heard them in context, but at face value, I have no problem with Coach Shula's comments. And for those spineless writers and columnists who resort to calling him old and irrelevant... how irrelevant of them.

I'm a diehard Cow fan, but I once pulled for NE... but for me their entire tenure under Belichek will always have an * on it. Cheating is cheating and if it didn't work (to whatever) degree people wouldn't do it. Belichek needs to do gut-check on his manhood...

And please kill and bury the remarks that "everybody cheats, he just got caught." Not everyone cheats!

Ok, I'm replying a week or so after this posted. Sorry, but today is the first day to see your blog. No offense. I enjoyed listening to you on ESPN on my drive home, when you were on GAC. I think Shula should just "shuddup". He sounds too much like Jimmy Carter. I really used to admire former President Jimmy Carter for all of his Habitat for Humanity work, but then Jimmy "goes political" and I just want to "tear his houses down". Give it a break Shula!! Don't be a stupid-head! The Pats are kicking everyone's butt! Of course he is guilty of cheating. He has been fined for it. And he should have been suspended for as long as Wade Wilson was. The Pats don't deserve an asterisk. I just hope by the end of the season, Dallas has their defense ready enough. I hope the Cowboys have eliminated the penalties and improved their running game. I hope by the end of the season, Dallas has some "really special", special teams. Maybe the Pats will peak in November. Maybe the Cowboys will show up with their own "astersik". That's what I want to see. It could happen! maybe?
