Pacman talks to continue

The Cowboys have talked to the Tennessee Titans about trading for cornerback Pacman Jones, but negotiations have hit a snag over compensation. Tennessee is asking for a fourth-round pick this year and a sixth-round pick next year that could become a fifth-rounder based on performance, according to a source.

Tennessee is also threatening to keep him on the roster if their demands are not met.

Manny Arora, Jones' agent, said the Titans are simply testing the market.

“The contract is in place (with Tennessee if he's on the roster),” Arora said Monday. “They are not unintelligent people. They know what they are doing."

Arora believes a deal will be made soon.

“They (Titans) have already made it publicly known that he needs to find another home. Hopefully, it will be Dallas,” Arora said. “At some point there is not going to be a market for him. If the draft comes and goes, his value for them reduces. If there is going to be a deal, I imagine it would come in the next three weeks."

Pacman update

The Cowboys continue to have "light" talks about what it's going to take the Titans to give up defensive back Adam "Pacman" Jones. Basically, the Cowboys want to give up as little as possible and the Titans want something of greater value for a player who was once the No. 6 overall pick in the 2005 draft.

Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher said again Thursday afternoon that Jones will not be playing for the Titans next season, and that he has no problem with him appearing on The Michael Irvin radio show this past Monday.
"We've given (Jones and his agent) permission to look for a new home, and whatever happens after that happens," Titans coach Jeff Fisher told Nashville reporters at a news conference to announce the retirement of Titans offensive lineman Benji Gil.

One report from SI.com had the Cowboys offering a seventh round pick in exchange for Jones, but an NFL source said the Cowboys right now are trying to determine how high the pick will have to be.
Jones is currently suspended by the NFL but plans to apply for reinstatement before the draft.

The problem is, with Pacman Jones all but declaring his love for the Cowboys and various sources confirming there is interest on the part of the Cowboys the team loses some of its leverage. But sources said the Cowboys are not prepared to give up anything higher than a fourth round draft pick, and that may be too high of a price.

The Cowboys could potentially throw in one of their linebackers, such as Bobby Carpenter or Akin Ayodele. Carpenter is a former No. 1 pick who has struggled to find playing time and sits behind Greg Ellis, DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer at the outside linebacker spot. Ayodele figures to see his playing time cut and his status as the starting inside linebacker removed with the addition of free agent signee Zach Thomas.

After further Review

For the record, Adam Pacman Jones will not be attending the party I blogged about earlier. His name was put in the flyer without his knowledge. Furthermore, the party has been cancelled.

On second thought

Maybe Adam Pacman Jones hasn't learned his lesson. This is flyer for a party his name is on this weekend.

And yes they are advertising about making it rain.

Pacman's pitch

Pacmanradio Suspended Tennessee cornerback Adam Jones was in Arlington today hoping to drum up public support for a possible trade to the Cowboys.

So far he is saying all the right things about trying to rebound from his litany of entanglements. Here are a few of his comments on the Michael Irvin Show on 103.3 ESPN radio show:

* "I've got to do better," Jones

* "I'd be really lucky to get another shot," Jones said on whether he will be reinstated to the league by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

*Jones said he is distancing himself from friends and family who have brought him down.  "It's getting to the point where it ain't no time for slip-ups right now," Jones said. "It's like I'm on the cliff right now. Any slip-up and it's off the cliff."

*Jones acknowledged he made a mistake by going to a strip club the night before he met with Goodell, especially considering Goodell had told him to stay away from strip clubs. "It was a bad decision," Jones said. "It was one of the dumbest decisions I've ever made. ... It's just not going to happen anymore."

*Jones said he came to Dallas to do the interview to attempt to offer his perspective on his legal problems.

Pacman banning himself

Pacman is banning himself from strip clubs for oh about 3-4 years....He will never say never, especially when it comes to the place where trouble just keeps following him. After that period of time he said he might pop in one and check it out.

Pacman and T-New

Pacman said he would love to play with Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman and learn from him. So what would Pacman's role be if he comes to Dallas? Does he bump Anthony Henry from starter to third corner? And how would he change the Cowboys draft plans at corner?

Henry has been a consistent high-caliber player -- when healthy. But he just hasn't been able to steer from injuries since he signed with the Cowboys. Pacman is a more talented cover corner than Henry with a more durable frame. He would also fill the void at punt returner where the Cowboys have sorely lacked playmaking.

Hill asking Pacman questions

Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill is asking questions of Pacman Jones and now we are getting into Cowboys talk.

Jones was asked if he would be reinstated and he said he thought he would and hoped it would happen before the draft so starting working out with the team.

Why the Cowboys?  ''It was a childhood dream and the Cowboys are America's Team and this is where I want to be and I will be here real, real quick.''

Pacman said he has talked with Terrell Owens a couple of times.

''Hopefully I can get one of those second chances.''

He's humble too

Pacman Jones says he is the best cornerback in the league but ''stupidity'' has kept him from proving it.

''I am the best, hands down,'' he said. ''With the complete package, I'm the best. My next move is going to be the best move.''

Hard not to just keep liking this guy, huh? Let's see Champ Bailey, Asante Samuel...Pacman wouldn't be the best corner on this Cowboys team (Terence Newman). He says he's been working out five days a week and is in shape and ready for training camp right now.

Our own Clarence Hill and Pacman

The Star-Telegram's Cowboys beat man Clarence Hill is about to join a segment on the Irvin show along with Pacman. But he and other reporters weren't allowed in studio so he will do it on his cell phone. Chill will get the opportunity to hit Pacman with some questions.
