Arlington's Joe Jon Finley headed to SF

Oklahoma tight end Joe Jon Finley, an Arlington High School graduate, has agreed to a free agent contract with the San Francisco 49ers. He also had a chance to stay close and sign with the Dallas Cowboys, but felt his chances of making a team were better in San Francisco, where he will head on Thursday.

Dunbar's Tatum gets interest from GB

Dunbar product Bobby Tatum was a little disappointed on Sunday night with going undrafted. He believes he has the measurables teams wanted at cornerback, and recently ran a 4.27 in the 40. The former Texas and Abilene Christian player was getting some strong free agent consideration from Green Bay.

Cowboys wanted John David Booty

The Cowboys didn't draft a quarterback but they wanted USC's John David Booty. Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said on Channel 11 last night they were looking hard at the Trojans QB but Minnesota traded up and took him off the board with the second pick in the fifth round.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones felt fine with not drafting a QB and even mentioned adding another veteran free agent in the offseason.

Grading the draft

You saw her on ESPN's coverage of the draft, now Star-Telegram NFL writer Charean Williams hands out her draft grades for each team.

Newman here to stay

Newman The Cowboys went after two cornerbacks in the draft and could have Pacman Jones on the way. This is not an indication the Cowboys are worried about not being able to re-sign CB Terence Newman. He becomes a free agent after this year and the Cowboys are fully commited to paying him.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones values Newman greatly as a major cornerstone to his defense along with linebacker DeMarcus Ware. Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said Newman won't be going anywhere.

Newman will want big cornerback money but the Cowboys are willing to pay the price to have him here. Now, this may say more about how they feel about the other starter -- Anthony Henry. He has been injury-prone since he arrived and will feel the pressure to stay healthy now.

Baylor's Nick Moore gets an invite

Arlington product Nick Moore, a linebacker from Baylor, has been invited to the Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp this weekend to work out in hopes of earning a free agent contract.

Moore also said his former high school teammate Joe Jon Finley (Oklahoma) has agreed to a free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Southlake Carroll's Hartley lands with Broncos

Garretthartley_2 Former Southlake Carroll kicker Garrett Hartley (Oklahoma) has agreed to a free-agent deal with the Denver Broncos. He will report to Denver on May 16, his 22nd birthday. Hartley said the Broncos came calling one minute after the draft was over.

Hartley should have a solid chance at the job. Former Broncos kicker Jason Elam, who played 15 seasons in Denver, agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Falcons in March. If Hartley makes the team, it would give Carroll two NFL kickers (Kris Brown of Houston Texans is the other).

Longhorns headed to NFL

Texas cornerback Brandon Foster, who played at Arlington Bowie, has agreed to a free agent deal to join the Indianapolis Colts. He will head to the Colts' minicamp this weekend.

According to Foster, Texas defensive back Marcus Griffin and receiver Nate Jones are headed to the Minnesota Vikings and defensive tackle Derek Lokey will join the Kansas City Chiefs.
