Comptroller's report on Super Bowl impact due today
Today is the deadline for the Texas Comptroller's Office to finish its report on the Super Bowl Host Committee's request to activate the state's Major Events Trust Fund. We expect to hear from the committee tomorrow on its finding that the Super Bowl will generate $36.2 million in extra tax revenue.
Among the interesting findings in the economic development study done for the committee, and submitted to the comptroller's office as part of the request to activate the fund, are the estimated crowds for various events.
Some of these we've heard before, such as 93,221 for the game at Cowboys Stadium, and 250,000 for the four-day NFL Experience at the Dallas Convention Center.
But here are a couple of new numbers:
- 80,000 at Cowboys Stadium for the final event in the three-event Kickoff Concert Series. The act for the September show has yet to be named.
- 50,000 at the AFC Fan Party held the night before the Super Bowl in Fort Worth's Sundance Square. The NFC Fan Party at Fair Park in Dallas is expected to draw the same amount of fans. Interesting, but it's hard to know if those estimates are anywhere near reality.
