Frostbite me

Cheese_bra_2Just came in from the bitter cold in Cowtown this morning, and after only five minutes of walking  around I'm wondering how in the name of Jack Frost football fans in Green Bay (and New England) are going to survive four hours outside in temperatures 30 degrees colder than here. It's a brisk 11-below in GB right now.

Maybe that cheesehead foam has some magical total-body warming device.

And you just know there will be some hairy beer-gut guys at Lambeau with no shirts on. It's tradition. It's also lunacy.

Maybe life in Loserville isn't so bad afterall.

Rain songs redux

During this year's soggy Colonial golf tournament, I compiled my top 20 rain songs. Seeing as the wet stuff is here to stay for the summer, I offer the top 20 again, and ask for your thoughts. What have I left out? Which songs don't deserve to be on the list? Argue away ... and maybe it'll help pass the time on another rainy night in Georgia, um, I mean North Texas.

My Top 20 rain songs:

20) Here Comes the Rain Again -- Eurythmics

19) Blame It on the Rain -- Milli Vanilli (I know they didn't sing, but it's a catchy tune.)

18) Kentucky Rain -- Elvis Presley

17) Ain't No Sunshine -- Bill Withers

16) Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain -- Hank Williams

15) Laughter in the Rain -- Neil Sedaka

16) I Love a Rainy Night -- Eddie Rabbit

15) I Wish it Would Rain -- The Temptations

14) The Early Morning Rain -- Gordon Lightfoot

13) Rainy Night in Georgia -- Randy Crawford

12) It's Raining Men -- The Weathergirls

11) It's Raining Again -- Supertramp

10) Singing in the Rain -- Gene Kelly

9) Riders on the Storm -- The Doors

8) It Never Rains in Southern California (but, man, it pours in Haltom City) -- Albert Hammond

7) Mandolin Rain -- Bruce Hornsby

6) Rainy Days and Mondays -- The Carpenters

5) Love, Reign, O'er Me -- The Who (OK, I admit it, I always thought they were singin' about rain.)

4) Rain, Rain Go Away -- Kids everywhere

3) Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head -- B.J. Thomas

2) Purple Rain -- Prince

1) Who'll Stop the Rain -- Creedence Clearwater Revival (in honor of The Dude -- and because we want the darn rain to stop!!).

What the fog!

Fogphoto Gotta love that Fort Worth weather. Drove to work in fog that wasn't exactly pea soup, but it was definitely chicken broth or matzoh ball.

This is a view coming down Camp Bowie toward downtown.

OK, so it's not Golden Gate fog ( photo shot Tuesday), but they don't have Briefcase Man.

Cowtown, Beyond Thunderdome

Welcome to our apocalyptic Saturday. Temperatures in the low 70s, wind gusts in the high 40s. The sky brown with haze. It's like a Mad Max movie, minus Mel Gibson and his anti-Semitism.

Bowlerbefore_4Bowlerafter_3 Albino Bowler and I made the mistake of going out to get our hair cut, but we never made it to the salon. The wind blew his 'fro clear off.

<--- Check out the before and after photos.

Let's just say he's one mad action figure. I think it makes him look 10 years younger.

As I sit at the front window watching a Whataburger bag roll by like a tumbleweed on the high plains, I'm reminded of the immortal words of Kansas: All we are is Dust in the Wind

(Ah, quit your crying, AB. It'll grow back. And at least you have hair!)

Another North Texas blizzard

Wet, sloppy snowflakes are falling on Fort Worth -- again! This is truly the winter of my discontent.

Albinobowlertight_2 But Albino Bowler, well, he couldn't be happier. The big galoot loves the white stuff. Matches his 'fro, you know.

In fact, he's outside waiting to make snow angels right now. I'll try to snap a photo. You send us your snow photos, too.

SnowphotoHere's a great photo from today's Stock Show by the Star-Telegram's own Tom Pennington.

Nick Dixon, 16, of Ennis, tries to catch a snowflake on his tongue.

I'm gonna try this on the way home.
