Man kills wife, 4 kids, then dies in fiery vehicular suicide

An Iowa man who had been charged with embezzlement killed his wife and four children and left a note apologizing. He then committed suicide by wrecking the family van in a fiery crash, according to police.

Steven Sueppel, a former bank executive, was identified using dental records, police say.

In a news conference, police say Sueppel killed his wife, then attempted to kill his children and himself using carbon monoxide from the garage. That failed, police say, so he killed the children one-by-one before taking off in the van and killing himself.

Autopsy results show that the wife and children were beaten on the head and torsos. Two baseball bats might have been used, according to reports.
