Half-ton woman accused of capital murder; can't leave room
Police and court officials in La Joya, Texas, have a weighty problem on their hands.
A morbidly obese woman in the Rio Grande Valley town has been charged with capital murder, accused of hitting her 2-year-old nephew in the head and killing him.
The problem for officials is that the woman weighs 1,000 pounds or more and cannot leave her room.
"She won't even fit through the door of her room," Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino told the Monitor of McAllen. "We would have to remove the walls to even get her out of there."
She was booked and fingerprinted at home and was released on a personal recognizance bond.

So remove the door frame and get her out. If she hit the kid and caused his death she won't be needing the door anyway. On second thought remove her only if the state and get a good lease on grazing pasture.
As an ambulance EMT in the 70's I can guarantee that we have gotten people that big out of houses, sometimes by using a crane or a forklift and I'm not kidding. You paramedics out there know what I'm saying don't ya?

What about the parents? Should they be up on charges of child endangerment? I would think so. If the child would have gotten into something and hurt himself (she) wouldn't have been able to do anything for him. They are to blame for their childs death.

They wont have to worry about her fleeing the country if she cant get out the door....

I agree with Texas Blues....do whatever needs to be done to get her out of there. Take down a wall, the roof, whatever. I, too, have seen EMT's have to use a forklift to get someone that big out of a house.

Just order her a life time supply of pizzas and fried chicken to be delivered to her home. She would die sooner that way than waiting 15 years on death row.

Grandmato13, NO THEY ARE NOT! The lady allegedly hit him in the head, he didn't get into something and hurt himself.

The parents are idiots for leaving a toddler with a woman that is obviously disabled due to her weight. They were putting his welfare at risk by leaving him with her. How could she have taken care of him effectively?

Hey - Practice Common Sense - YES THE MOM IS CHARGED!!! I read the other stories related to it and the mom left 3 children with that sister while she took a 4th child to a non-emergency doctor visit. The mom was in jail as of yesterday - she had signed some agreement with CPS a while back to never leave her children with that sister and did not honor her agreement with CPS. If I remember correct the other children were removed by CPS because of this incident. It is a PARENTS responsibility to protect their child - the mom could have taken the other children with her and this innocent child would still be alive....

There is no point in removing her. She wouldn't fit in a jail cell. She has already condemned herself to confinement and subsequent death by becoming so large. I say make her eat jail food everyday, take away the tv and let her sit there for the rest of her life.
