The price of this plea deal in Portland, Ore., was buckets of fried chicken, ice cream, calzones and pizza. What does that buy? A guilty plea and a life sentence.
A judge there approved the unusual deal so that a New York man would plead guilty to murder. Tremayne Durham, 33, agreed to the deal-in-exchange for some good eats and pleaded guilty to killing Adam Calbreath, a former employee of a company from which Durham had bought an ice cream truck that we wanted to return.
Durham went to Oregon when the company wouldn't take the truck back once Durham changed his mind about buying it. He then shot Calbreath while looking for the company's owner, police said.
