Dad says he did meth, then threw his child
while escaping assailant in Bedford
A 23-year-old Bedford man was arrested on suspicion of injury to a child after he told police that he threw his toddler out a vent from a third-story crawl space Sunday afternoon while escaping from an assailant.
Jimmy Jackson (left) took his 20-month-old son up into a crawl space above their second-story apartment in the 800 block of Central Drive, police reported.
Investigators said they have found no evidence to support the story. They noted, however, that Jackson told them that he had recently used methamphetamine and hadn’t slept in two days.
Officials don’t know how long he kept the child there, but when paramedics arrived about 3:45 p.m., the toddler was hot to the touch, police said.
The National Weather Service reported that temperatures had reached 102 degrees by 3 p.m. in the area.
"It is safe to say they were up there for a period of time," said Lt. Kirk Roberts of the Bedford Police Department.

Police say man shot after he took officer's Taser
A 23-year-old Arlington man has been hospitalized and faces charges after an altercation in which authorities say he took a patrolman’s stun gun and attacked him, prompting the officer to shoot back.
Vincent Wadley was being treated for gunshot wounds Monday at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, said Lt. Blake Miller, an Arlington police spokesman. Wadley faces a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer, Miller said.
Wadley was handcuffed with his hands behind his back and placed in the back seat of the patrol car. During the ride to jail, police said, Wadley began kicking the glass inside the car. At some point, he was able to get his hands in front of him, Miller said.
