Police near the Library of Congress have detained a man who they say was carrying a loaded gun and what appears to be a hand grenade, the Washington Post reported in its online edition.
The man was stopped after an officer noticed a rifle case in his back seat when he stopped to ask the officer a question, according to the report.
ABC News identified the man as Christopher Timmons. The man had plans to the Washington Convention Center with him, according to the ABC News report.
Nobody was injured and the explosive device was safely removed and taken to an FBI lab for analysis, ABC News reported.
