You, too, can be a Crime Fighter

1007_national_nigh_out_2National Night Out tonight;

Texans Against Crime Oct. 14

Here's some opportunities for you to fight back against crime.

First, tonight is National Night Out, a crime-prevention and awareness effort that encourages neighbors to gather to discuss crime prevention and to meet law enforcement and city officials.

About 100 events are scheduled in Arlington alone, and more are planned in Forest Hill and Hurst.

Residents are asked to leave their porch lights on as a sign of solidarity.

National Night Out, now is in its 25th year, has traditionally been held in August, but to avoid the summer heat, many Texas cities moved the date to October.

1007_texans_against_crime_logo_2 Fort Worth is scheduled to hold its Texans Against Crime night on Oct. 14.

Both nights feature block parties, cookouts and visits from local police and sheriff's deputies (like the one pictured above in 2006 at Forest Park Pool in Fort Worth) to celebrate law enforcement and promote crime prevention techniques.
