New Fort Worth chief pledges he'll work hard for community
Fort Worth Police Chief Jeff Halstead had a meet-and-greet at the PoliceTraining Center this morning with members of local media.
This wasn’t a coffee and donuts affair, just a chance to get a glimpse and shake a few hands.
The words and phrases he peppered his presentation with were crucial and certainly stood out:
Community.
Building relationships.
Partnerships.
Stakeholders.
One gets the sense that he is a people person. He’s pledged to work 100 days straight, including weekends, to get to know the community, and build relationships and partnerships with the people of Fort Worth, the stakeholders. He’ll also use that time to review how things work in the department, which he said looks like it is running pretty well.
He said he’d take his time to get to know Fort Worth and his officers, before he makes any crucial changes.
“Nothing is broken in Fort Worth,” the chief said, noting that he plans to have a full-time media relations person in place soon.
He’s nice, looks you in the eyes when he talks to you, and he’s polite. Sounds like a Texan, huh? Nope, he’s from Alabama. But his wife is a native Texan, born in El Campo and grew up in Garland.
Texan by marriage is the next best thing.
