LA police suspect 72-year-old man in up to 30 killings

Police in Los Angeles say that DNA links a 72-year-old state insurance claims adjuster to five and, perhaps as many as 30, killings that took place in two waves in the mid-1970s.

The first wave of killings, the killer preyed on older women who he raped and squeezed their necks until they passed out died. Seventeen women were killed.

In the second wave of killings, five older women were raped and strangled. In both killing sprees, the victims' faces were covered with pillows or blankets.

Authorities say they now suspect John Floyd Thomas Jr., who twice has been convicted of sexual assault, in five of the killing and, perhaps, 25 more, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Man gets death sentence for tossing his 4 kids off bridge

The Alabama man who threw his four young children to their deaths from a bridge has been sentenced to death.

The judge also ordered prison officials to show Lam Luong photographs of this children every day he is on death row.

He was accused of dropping his children from the Dauphin Island Bridge after an argument with his wife.

Video: Amazing images of an attack on Dutch royal family

There's amazing video available on CNN of an attempted attack on the Dutch royal family. The video shows a man's careening car crash near a bus carrying the royals.

Four people were killed and 13 injured in the incident, police said. The incident occurred in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn.

The driver was badly injured and hospitalized. He's been charged with trying to attack the royal family members.

Girl, 12, arrested in fatal shooting of her father

Police in Katy, Texas, have arrested a 12-year-old girl who is accused of fatally shooting her father in the back of head.

The girl was alone with her father at the time of the killing on Wednesday, police said. She was not at school because of flooding in the Houston area, police said.

Tension had been building in recent days between the girl and her father, neighbors said.

Fiancee of Craigslist killing suspect cancels their wedding

The wedding's off.

So says the lawyer for Megan McAllister, the fiancee of Philip Markoff, the man accused of killing a masseuse he contacted through the Craigslist online classified site.

The attorney, Robert Honecker, told ABC's "Good Morning America" that McAllister's planned August wedding "will not occur" and that it's unlikely it will happen in the future.

Mexico nabs one of its 24 most-wanted drug lords

Mexican police have scratched one of that nation's 24 most-wanted drug traffickers off their list with the arrest Wednesday of suspected Zeta gang leader Gregorio Sauceda Gamboa.

Police said he is one of the major drug lords who had a $2.1 million reward on his head.

Sauceda Gamboa, a former police officer, was arrested at a home in the border city of Matamoros, across the border from Brownsville, Texas, police said.

Woman tells police her dad was the Zodiac killer

Daddy was the Zodiac killer.

That's what a Southern California woman is claiming, the Associated Press reports.

The Zodiac terrorized the San Francisco Bay area in the 1960s and was the subject of several recent movies, one of them starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gylenhall.

Deborah Perez said her father, Guy Ward Hendrickson, killed at least two of the known victims some 40 years ago, the paper reported.

Perez told police she naively tagged along with her father during the killings. She said she had has given a pair of sunglasses to police that she said belonged to a cab driver killed by the Zodiac in 1969.

The Zodiac was known for the taunting letters that he wrote to a San Francisco newspaper daring the police to catch him. She's given police some letters she said she wrote on her father's behalf.

The Zodiac was never caught.

New Craigslist arrest: Man wanted to kill woman after sex

Here's another arrest related to advertising on the Craigslist Web site.

Police in Seattle, Wash., say they have arrested a man who they said placed an ad on the site in which he indicated that he wanted to have sex with a woman and then kill her.

The ad was labeled "a strange desire" and was posted in the "casual encounters" section.

Police said the emailed the man and arranged for him to meet a victim at a motel. The man showed up with a chain and a knife, police said.

Report: Radio Shack employee arrested for punching customer

Is this a case of customer disservice?

An Eau Claire,  Wisc., Radio Shack employee has been arrested for punching a customer, television station WEAU 13 reports.

The 52-year-old employee faces disorderly conduct and battery charges, police said.

Police said a 56-year-old customer was trying to return something and the employee told him he couldn't. That prompted the customer to ask to speak to the manager, police said.

That's when the employee began punching the customer, police said. A witness called 911, according to reports.

Deputies pursue drunk garbage truck driver for 57 miles

What a waste!

A guy suspected of being drunk and a truckload of trash made for eventful police chase in Minnesota.

Authorities in Morrison County say they've arrested a man who led deputies on a 57-mile chase in the garbage truck. Deputies even tried firing shotgun blasts into the truck's engine, to no avail, and using a "stop stick" to flatten the truck's tires.

The truck's driver eventually pulled over and was apprehended by a police dog as he tried to run into the woods. He's in jail and was treated for dog bites.
