El Tiempo de Durango reporter Jose Bladimir Antuna, who wrote about violent drug crime in the northern Mexico state of Durango, was found strangled.
He was kidnapped Monday night and his body was found Tuesday in a vacant lot in Durango, about 400 miles southwest of Laredo, Texas, according to the Associated Press.
Colleagues said Antuna had told them that he had received multiple death threats and there are reports that a message was left next to his body saying he was killed for giving information to the military, the Associated Press reported. Mexican army soldiers are stationed throughout northern Mexico to combat the rampant drug cartel violence that has claimed thousands of lives in the past several years.
