Report: Officer in fatal crash started drinking while on duty
An internal police investigation shows that Jesus Cisneros, an off-duty Fort Worth police officer, had started drinking while still on duty before crashing into another vehicle last December, killing Sonia Baker, a mother of two.
Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman, called Cisneros' actions a "gross violation of policy." Lawyers for Cisneros (right) and Baker's family are preparing to deal with civil litigation.
Police knew Cisneros had a drinking problem back in 2006 when, according to civil service records, he accepted a 20-day suspension in lieu of indefinite suspension after an internal investigation of two alcohol-related incidents.
"I swear if you give me a chance I will clean myself up forever," a transcript quotes Cisneros as saying. "And one day you'll see me become a detective, sergeant, lieutenant and I can show others not to make the mistakes that I have made."
Then-chief Ralph Mendoza told Cisneros that he had a lot of "potential to do good police work," but also warned that the officer might ruin his own life and career.
And, the chief added, "every time you screw up, it reflects on us."

Woman says officer shot husband in eye, chest with Taser
A woman says her husband was shot in the eye and chest with a Taser by an off-duty Fort Worth police officer who was working security at a bar in the Stockyards.
Misty Macias said her husband, Jason Macias, 37, of Saginaw, was also kicked and beaten unconscious around 1 a.m. Sunday outside the Cantina Cadillac bar. MedStar paramedics treated Macias at the scene for an eye injury and burns, Misty Macias said.
The bar manager told the officer that Jason Macias was causing a disturbance and asked the officer to help him get Macias to leave.
Jason Macias has a criminal history dating from 1995 to 2007 for convictions ranging from driving while intoxicated to assault with bodily injury involving a public servant.
But his wife said that after her husband was hit in the eye with the Taser probes, the officer pulled the probes out, kicked Jason Macias in the face, reloaded the Taser and fired again, hitting her husband in the chest.
