'911, what's your emergency?' -- No sauce!

I've had plenty of fast food restaurants mess up my order, and I have to admit it's pretty aggravating. I've called them to complain and even driven back to make them get the order right.

But police in Jacksonville, Fla., say they had to arrest a man who twice called 911 after he said a sandwich shop left the sauce off his order. One call was for police to get the shop to make his sandwich correctly. The second was because he didn't think police were responding quickly enough. Police weren't amused.

Shooting scare at NE Mall

Rumors are circulating today about a supposed shooting at North East Mall in Hurst. Not true! Police received an anonymous phone call around 10 a.m. today from a caller who said a person who was upset about a breakup planned to commit suicide at the mall, according to Hurst police dispatch. Police sent units to the mall, just in case, but there was no shooting, the dispatcher said.

Hear Houston police try to stop man with shotgun

Joe Horn took the law -- and his shotgun -- into his own hands when he saw what he assumed were two men breaking into a nearby house. He called police and told them about it, but then decided to take aim himself, despite pleas from the 911 dispatcher.

'I shot my wife in the stomach with a .38'

When Freddie Willhite (below) called North Richland Hills police last March, 911 operator Laura Hines (right) was surprised by how he candidly described fatally shooting his wife, Donna.

You might recall the exchange that began with, "I shot my wife in the stomach with a .38."

To Hines he explained, "She enticed me and she ridiculed me throughout my lifetime."

To his wife, he asked, "Are you alive, or are you dead?"

Now Hines has been credited with keeping Willhite on the line long enough to nail down his location so that police and ambulance crews would know where to go.

Because of her questioning, Hines was credited by North Richland Hills police for bringing a quick resolution to the case.

Last month, the Texas Commission on State Emergency Communications honored Hines for her work on that 911 call by naming her a 2007 Telecommunicator of the Year.
