Security increases at Arlington parks

Arlington is adding more security measures to fight thieves who target vehicles at popular parks and recreational facilities.

At least 68 vehicles have been broken into this year, with the most burglaries occurring at River Legacy Parks, Randol Mill Park and the Elzie Odom Recreation Center, according to police statistics reported in this article by Staff Writer Susan Schrock.

This year, the City Council allocated $25,000 a year to the parks budget to pay for private security after a rash of vehicle burglaries at pools, sporting events and recreation facilities such as the Arlington Tennis Center.

TCU issues crime alert

TCU police have issued an email that warns students about an attempted abduction that was reported early Saturday morning a couple blocks north of the campus.

Three men tried to push a woman into an SUV, but she fought them off, biting one on the hand and kicking another in the face, according to the crime alert.

No arrests were reported, but TCU officials are using the incident to remind students, faculty and staff to be aware of their surroundings.

Also, the officials said TCU police will escort people across campus to their cars or dorms if they have to be out late at night. The agency's Web site carries a comprehensive listing of crime prevention tips and links.
