No down time for trustees

While Arlington students and teachers are chilling at home on Monday, hanging out by the pool and barbecuing some brats, the school board will be hitting the books.

Arlington trustees will be holed up at the Sheraton Hotel for state-mandated school board training beginning at 8 a.m. on Memorial Day, with none other than Bob Thompson, the superintendent-finder from Beaumont that brought us Mac Bernd and Hector Montenegro.Bob

The unusual Monday session was necessary to coordinate trustees' schedules with Thompson's, according to district spokesperson Veronica Sopher.

The board also will be discussing a couple of routine closed-session business items: the periodic superintendent's evaluation and the dispensation of small pieces of real estate around the district.
