Ysleta to audit Hector Montenegro

The Ysleta school board voted to audit former superintendent Hector Montenegro's travel and to see if he accepted any honorariums there when he served as superintendent of that El Paso district, according to the El Paso Times.

Trustees want to know about his travel costs, his travel schedule and whether vendors he brought to the district violated district policy or the law in their dealings with him, the paper reported. They also want to know if he violated state law in taking honorariums after 2007 legislation made it against the law for superintendents to do so in most cases.

Montenegro's attorney Neal Adams has said Ysleta officials won't find anything but even if they did, the separation agreement between his client and the school district releases Montenegro from "any and all matters."

Montenegro recently resigned his post as Arlington superintendent after the board asked similar questions here.

Arlington ISD, just be happy that you don't have this man to deal with any longer. The damage he did to Ysleta ISD took place over five years. You all did away with him in less than half a year. Montenegro was literally a five-year insult to a wonderful school district. Your insult only lasted six months.

Please fix your article to the following:

Trustees WANT to know about his travel costs, his travel schedule and whether vendors he brought to the district violated district policy or the law in their dealings with him, the paper reported.

Pretty embarrassing to make that mistake on something widely read as this web site.

Hiring needs to be done on, experience, and qualifications. Not on the last name or skin color, trying to appease special interest with diversity and affirmative action as the way to fill jobs is racism.
As MLK said, " not the color of their skin. But the content of their character", Now-a-days it is also the last name.

I'm curious as to what other districts are doing in the wake of this...unless I already missed it, it would be nice if there was a S-T sidebar/article with comments on whether other districts are double-checking for conflicts of interest with vendors.
