Greg Chavez was named best vocalist and trumpet player Marissa Ocampo snagged the judges' choice for best overall performer. NAMM, a music product trade group, sponsored the competition. So, both winners received band equipment.
The group didn't place in the competition's top three, but director Marta Ocampo (also Marissa's proud mom) said the students put on a great performance and had a good time.
"They treated them like rock starts there," she said.
