School zones on days with no school

From Kimberly Norton:

The speed limit in school zones ranges from 10 mph to 30 mph. The zones are posted with a sign and/or flashing lights. When school is "not" in session are we still legally obligated to drive reduced speed in school zones? This situation will usually occur on Teacher In-Service days, school holidays, Good Friday (when near a Catholic school), and about two weeks before the start of a new school year.

Granbury Road question

Kimberly Norton of FW asks:
Construction is taking place on Grandbury Road (Between Dirks Road and Hulen street but closer to the Dirks Road intersection).  There are signs that say "Construction 20 MPH," the original speed limit is 45 mph.  Is this construction posting of 20 mph only for when workers are present?  In other words, at night when no one is working is it legal to drive the original 45 mph?

Stuck in the middle of an intersection ...

Redlight From Kimberly Norton of FW:
Red light Cameras I was driving through an intersection when the car in front of me stopped for no apparent reason.  Right before the light turned red the car sped off which left me stuck in the middle of an intersection with a red light.  Fortunately there was no photo enforced cameras there. But, what if there had been a camera there?  The photos don't tell the whole story.  It would be better if they had video cameras that only kept portions of the video when there was a violation.

Toll roads that don't have toll booths

121toll Kimberly Norton of Fort Worth offers this observation:
I had traveled TX 121 near Denton Tapp Road for over 20 years.  Recently they made that part of the road a toll.  It would be OK if you knew it was a toll (e.g. the paying booths) but it's a video toll.  They take a photo of your license plate and send you a bill.  I hope this is not starting a new trend in the DFW area!

I-30 News alert: Westbound lanes to be moved!

I30 ARLINGTON -- Major changes are coming to I-30 Monday night. Beginning at 9 p.m. that night, workers will temporarily move the westbound lanes to a newly paved area on the north side of the freeway. Then on Wednesday night, the eastbound lanes will temporarily be moved to the westbound side of the freeway. The contractor is about to begin excavating the eastbound side of the highway. The reconstruction of I-30 includes dropping the main lanes about 20 feet below their current surface to make room for those fancy new bridges in Arlington. The work is taking place between Ballpark Way and Collins Street.

Watch for slow, occasionally confusing traffic beginning with your Tuesday morning commute -- and everyday for the next few months!I30map_4

Road trip to a home game

OK, this has little to do with transportation, but next year I'm gonna make a point to attend a UT-Arlington basketball game.Uta Check out where this team plays: Texas Hall -- a theater!!!!! -- on the campus.

If I do go to the game, I'll take 377, 820 and I-30. There. That's a transportation angle.
