New from Pentax

19381_k20d_1645mm_3qview_smPENTAX has a new SLR digital camera, the K20D, which is expected to hit the camera store shelves by early April.

The camera will retail for $1,299.99 and is equipped with 14.6 megapixels and includes features: dust-proof and weather-resistant bodies along with an improved PRIME image processor.

A big plus, if you already have any of the 24 million Pentax lenses ever manufactured, they will work with the camera and also with the Pentax Shake Reduction.

7,500 photos - but will the batteries last?

Sdhc4_16gb_class4Kingston Technology Company, Inc. announced Wednesday night that they have added a new 16GB Class 4 SDHC Flash memory card to its lineup of flash storage.

This product will be the largest largest capacity in Kingston’s line of SDHC cards, and is able to store more than 7,500 digital images (with a 6MP camera).

The Class 4 rating gives users a minimum transfer (downloading) speed of 4 megabytes per second. Users should be able to purchase the card immediately with a MSRP of $231.

Shock, drop and freeze

Drop it from 6.6 feet, take it underwater up to 33 feet, freeze it down to 14-degrees or apply 220 lbs. of pressure. That's all you can do to the new Olympus Stylus 1030.

Stylus1030sw_b

The 10.1 megapixel camera is designed for Scuba divers and mountain climbers lifestyles. Other features include a 2.7-inch LCD screen and a TruePicTM III Image processor for capturing high quality images.

Expect to see it in mid-March for $399 (MSRP).

The baby brother to the 1030 SW is the Olympus Stylus 850 SW. It has most of the same features, but just can't take the same beating.

This one can only be dropped from 5 feet and can go under water up to 10 feet. But you can still freeze it with last night's dinner down to 14-degrees.

The Stylus 850 SW is available now for $299.Stylus850sw_b_pi_2

Sound in the box

Mustek has introduced better sound for MP3 playing in their new 9.5-inch digital photo frame.

The new sounding frame brings better audio for those who want to add the feature to slide shows on the frame displaying digital photos and videos.

Other features mentioned on an e-mail press release today: "The PF-A950PS features a 9.5-inch LCD (16:9 aspect ratio) and sharp 800 x 480 resolution. Compatible with most standard memory cards (SD/ MMC/MS/MS Pro/XD/CF) used in today's digital cameras, the frame supports JPEG photos, AVI, MJPEG and Xvid video with audio, plus MP3 music files for greater entertainment options. In addition, there is a USB 2.0 port for thumb drives or for connecting the frame directly to a PC for copying files onto its 128MB internal memory."

Get yours in May with an MSRP of $249.99.

Cut the cords II

Eye-Fi, makers of the world's first wireless memory card for digital cameras, (it does work, I watched a demo at CES earlier this month) has collaborated with Nikon to enhance integration of the Eye-Fi Card in Nikon's new D60 digital SLR camera.

The camera will be out in February (price TBA) and will allow photographers to wirelessly upload images using an Eye-Fi Card to their computer or favorite online photo sharing site.

If this works, it will be a big hit.

Double the view

StarTech.com has a new product to help solve a tricky issue -- using multiple monitors. This device can add up to five separate monitors to the computer.

The devices (USB2VGA2 USB 2.0 to VGA Display Adapter - $116.99 and the USB2DVI USB 2.0 to DVI Display Adapter - 179.99 ) will add additional monitors to an existing computer using the USB 2.0 ports on the computer.

These will be extra monitors, not replacing an existing one.

More for less

Are pocket-sized digital cameras getting cheaper? And are they loaded with more and more features (most of which will never be used) for the lower price?

USAToday has a story that says just that.

But remember when you buy that new digital camera today, it could be cheaper tomorrow.

Wider and wider we go

Just ahead of the Photo Marketing Show in Las Vegas this week, Panasonic has introduced eight new cameras to its digital camera offerings, including the LUMIX FX35.

This camera includes a 25mm Ultra-Wide-Angle Leica Lens, which captures almost double the viewing area of previous lenses. Other features are a 4x optical zoom Leica lens and Panasonic's Advanced Intelligent Auto Mode (This works GREAT!).

All the information about the other Panasonic camera releases are here.

Money for junk

Got an e-mail yesterday that caught my attention from a company called MyBoneYard.

The highlight was, "It's the best way to recycle electronics! It's as easy as 1 – 2 – 3. Just click on the type of electronic device you want to recycle."

Money for junk sitting in my closet? Sounds like a good deal to me. I might give it a try.
