Summer Issue: Paris Vacation Q & A

Bonjour! Several readers have called and emailed with questions about our wonderful family trip to Paris that I wrote about on the back page of this month's special Summer issue of Indulge. I thought I'd share some of the questions and answers here, in case you were wondering, too. Feel free to post any other questions here or email me at jdavis@indulgedfw.com. I am happy to share everything and anything about this incredible city!

Q: How did you find your apartment?

A: We found it through an online apartment listing service, www.homeaway.com.

Q: Is Paris really family friendly?

A: Incredibly so. We organized every excursion to include playtime, which was easy -- major attractions like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are set in the middle of giant parks. In the Marais, my favorite neighborhood, my girls adored Princess Crepe, visting the home of the REAL Nicolas Flamel (Harry Potter fans will understand),  attending a magic show (all in French!) at the Museum of Magic and shopping at a charming English-language bookstore called The Red Wheelbarrow. They also appreciated the pocket sammies at L'As du Falafel -- made just for kids without sauce or veggies.

Q: Did you buy anything fabulous?

A: Sadly, no. It's hard to shop with two kids under 10 and a husband in tow! But I did take my daughters to the original Chanel boutique at 31 Rue Cambon (Coco's famous mirrored staircase is contained in its own area, so you don't have to troop the fam through the chic boutique to see it), and I was able to sneak into a few boutiques at Galleries Lafayette while my husband kept the girls busy in the Lego department. I also found an amazing off-the-beaten-track vintage shop and got to see the owner's own intricately beaded 1920s gown -- divine, but too heavy to wear in the "real world." -- J. Davis

Weekend agenda: Kimbell's After Hours program

Looking for weekend plans? We suggest the Kimbell's After Hours on Saturday (July 9). On tap: Live jazz music by the Victor Cager Quartet, tours of the artwork, gift giveaways, snacks and a cash bar (wine, beer, and Blue Cosmos). $20; free for Kimbell Art Museum members.  5:30-7:30 p.m. 3333 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth.

Dallas Museum of Art summer sale

Visit the museum (1717 N. Harwood, Dallas) or just shop online (www.shopdma.org). You'll find deals on kids stuff, exhibition merchandise and cool, classic designs in home decor and jewelry.

Many happy hours in W. 7th!

Even more reason to cool off with cool friends on a hot day after work: new happy hour deals at places in W. 7th development!

Patrizio's got Bellini Fest going on through July: $1 baby bellinis (those yummy frozen champagne-peach schnapps concoctions) pretty much any time of day. (Darn those ethics policies or we'd be there for a mid-morning snack right now!)

Brownstone's got a traditional happy hour 4-7 p.m. AND the increasingly popular "reverse happy hour" 9 p.m.-close: $3 drafts, $4 premiums, $5 wine, $6 specialty cocktails, and half-off appetizers. Live music on the patio Thursday-Saturday. Half-price bottles of wine on Wednesdays.

Cheers!
