Beavers pelted by Texas Ethics Commission; will pay $100
Say it ain’t so: the Texas Ethics Commission says there is no such political action committee as Citizens for Beavers in White Settlement. The commission this month fined former White Settlement city council candidate Rachel Beavers $100 for violations related to political advertising connected to the 2009 election. Beavers, who could not immediately be reached for comment, did not admit or deny the allegations. In May, Beavers received 7.4 percent of the vote, according to Star-Telegram archives.
A complaint to the commission accused Beavers of erecting a sign that did not include the appropriate highway right-of-way notice. A complaint also questioned two campaign advertisements in a local newspaper that contained different disclosure statements.
Beavers was accused of failing to disclose the true source of the two campaign communications that were published, according to the commission. One advertisement stated that it was,“Authorized and paid for by Citizens for Beavers...,” and the other that it was “Paid for by Citizens for Rachel Beavers.”
Commission documents say no evidence exists that such political committees were created within the city of White Settlement.
It should be noted, however, there is a Citizens for Beavers in Chicago whose purpose was to elect William M. Beavers alderman of the 7th Ward.
