A musician at the Cliburn literally played through the pain. Edward Dusinberre, the first violinist of the Takacs Quartet, which played with each of the pianists in the semifinals, broke the baby toe on his right foot in his hotel room. A nasty little break, said Dr. Doug Lorimer. As a result of the break, the toe of the Boulder, Colo-based musician was sticking in the wrong direction unnaturally. “I taped it to the next toe,” said Lorimer, a Fort Worth general surgeon who was on call for all Cliburn exigencies. “The next night I saw he played with his shoe untied.” -- Barry Shlachter

I broke the same toe a few days ago, and I'm a cellist. Wonder if this is going around the string community.

That's a sign of dedication, still playing even with the pain.
