Hillary takes off gloves in South Texas

Hillarysupporter Smarting from eight straight losses to Barack Obama, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton took off the gloves during her first full-day swing through Texas today. At a South Texas "kick-off" rally in McAllen, Clinton said it was time to start the "comparing and contrasting.''

"There is a very important choice and a big difference between the candidates in this race,'' Hillary told a crowd of cheering supporters at the McAllen Convention Center. "I am in the solutions business. My opponent is in the promises business.''

Clinton criticized Obama for failing to produce workable solutions to health care, the economy and the housing crisis.

"I have solutions to these economic challenges. The question today is does Sen. Obama,'' she said. "We need real results, not more rhetoric.'' After she spoke, Clinton press aide Doug Hattaway said to expect a more aggressive campaign as the race for Texas heats up.

"People are saying Obama is the frontrunner,'' said Hattaway. "So he's got to answer for his rhetoric.''

I don't have a crowd count yet, by the way, but it wasn't an overflow situation. Clinton will hold more events today in the Corpus Christi area and in San Antonio.

Wondering about the photo? That's Clinton volunteer Carla Zaedow from San Juan, Texas.

To the Texas voters:

I am a 55 year old educated white women married to a 68 year old black man and we have a 26 year old white daughter.
We have talked politics at our house and this is what we have learned.
Although McCain and Obama have major differences on the war the only difference on the issue of ecomomics is that McCain admits to knowing nothing about the economy and Obama dances around it. We have watched the debates closely when Hillary could get Obama to do them, and we realize that Hillary's plan is the only one that is believable. The economy and health care are big issues at our house. If you feel the same, support Hillary Clinton. Don't get sucked into Obama's one liners about change. Its rhetoric and he knows it.

I can understand the perception that there is some substance behind the Clinton economic plans, but I believe a more important issue is which candidate will really do something for Americans. The American people are getting tired of these ineffective political dynasties. I've had conversations with friends who have expressed concern over the abuse of power manifested by the current Bush administration. This power to abuse is a direct result of President Bush's ascendency to his father's throne. He has even called upon the resources of his father's administration to staff his own. The people of the United States were concerned about this kind of abuse when in 1951, the states ratified the 22nd amendment to the Constitution which restricted the service of a US President to two four year terms in office. We were concerned about a too powerful president creating an imbalance in the separation of powers guaranteed by the Constitution. We have experienced that imbalance over the last seven years. If this is a concern to you, or even frightening to you as it is to me, then please consider what a nightmare it would be to put Bill and Hillary Clinton back in the White House. As political dynasties go, you can be certain they would be there to serve no one but themselves.

Obama is a lightweight. The republicans will corner him as the extreme lefty his record (as short as it is) confirms he is. He will be an easy target for a “swiftboat” style campaign like the one the GOP used on Kerry.
He cannot win a general election because he is a mile wide but only an inch deep.
At least Hillary has been through the wars and can keep the repubs at bay.
And, by the way, if all we get in the valley from Hillary is our own Veterans Hospital, we will have acheived a wonderful and necessary result!
My prayers and my $ go to Hillary!
