Election irregularities reported: memo

Votingbooth The Texas Democratic Party issued an Election Day memo today warning of possible irregularities ahead of the caucus process tonight. Jim Boynton, the party's primary election director, said he had received reports that "the Presidential Campaigns have encouraged or are taking part" in activities outside polling places that violate caucus rules.

The memo says the party has caught wind of presidential campaign workers or supporters handing out sign-in sheets in advance of the caucuses, technically known as precinct conventions, which can't start until polls close and everyone has voted in the primary.

"These sign-in sheets are invalid and will not be considered in determining the allocation of delegates,''Boynton said.

Another possible irregularity: there are reports of people not registered to vote in Texas, "traveling from out of state intending to appear at conventions this evening to vie for the position as temporary chair,'' an intra-precinct leadership post.

More to come ...
