Fingerpointing breaks out over alleged irregularities

Hillaryobamaphoto After the Democratic Party issued a memo warning of alleged Election Day voting irregularities, some furious finger-pointing broke out between the campaigns of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

They traded allegations that the rival campaigns were violating the rules governing the caucus process, which isn't supposed to begin until polls close at 7 p.m.

Both sides claim they've gotten reports that their opponents' supporters have been circulating sign-in sheets ahead of the caucuses. That would violate rules and procedures because voters aren't supposed to sign up to participate in the caucuses, or precinct conventions, until the primary ends tonight.

The Obama campaign alleged five specific incidents, two of them in Tarrant County. The Clinton campaign did not cite any particulars but said Obama allies were circulating sign-in sheets today and alleging "underhanded tactics.''

There is one ground-level report flowing into PoliTex: a Star-Telegram reporter was asked by a political activist if he was going to participate in the caucus. He said he was not, and the person then asked him to sign a sheet -- unclear if it was technically a caucus sign-in sheet -- for Hillary Clinton. The reporter declined to sign it and walked off.
