House Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps pushing Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, to be Barack Obama's running mate -- and Edwards keeps giving an "aw shucks" response.
But with time running out on the Democratic nominee's decision, Edwards won't even say if he's submitted papers for the vetting process. Pelosi's latest assertive comments about Edwards on Sunday's ABC's "This Week" -- "I hope he will be the nominee" -- got a pretty coy response from the nine-term Texan.
"I am deeply grateful to Speaker Pelosi for her gracious comments about me and my work in Congress on behalf of veterans and military families," Edwards said in a statement released by his office. "Sen. Obama has earned the right to manage his own vice presidential selection process, and out of respect to him, any questions about the process should be directed to the Obama campaign."
