Prime time Chet?
U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards may be getting a high-profile consolation prize for finishing among the runners up in the vice presidential sweepstates.
Chatting with reporters before speaking to the Texas delegation brunch near at a hotel near Denver, Edwards said he's been told to be prepared to address the full Democratic convention on Wednesday night to talk about veterans' issues. He chairs a subcommittee on the topic in Congress.
Nothing's official yet, Edwards said. But he clearly seemed to relish the prospect by road-testing a message suggesting the GOP presumptive nominee may not be as strong on veterans' issues as many believe.
Edwards also seemed proud that virtually no one knew he was being considered for the No.2 place on the presidential ticket until the very end of the process.
"It was the best-kept secret in Washington," the Waco Democrat said with a smile. "Not a single national network knew we were being vetted."
