McCain's medical advisor: Burgess

Burgess ST. PAUL, Minn. -- U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess is spending the last days of the Republican National Convention talking to radio shows, TV crews and newspaper reporters.

But he's not talking about himself. He's talking about John McCain.

Burgess, R-Lewisville, is a senior health care policy advisor for the Republican presumptive presidential nominee. Since April, he and a team of nearly a dozen others have been having weekly meetings or conference calls to fine tune McCain's health care plan.

"One of the things that impressed me was that Sen. McCain's campaign focused on individuals," Burgess said. "He is focused on individuals who need to maintain their health."

So after Burgess knew that Hurricane Gustav wasn't going to bring Katrina-like conditions to Texas, he flew here Tuesday to get out the word on McCain's health care plans.

"I'm here to be of support," he said.
