As the big day nears, local bloggers share their favorite election posts

We interviewed local political bloggers for a story in today's paper. Along the way, we asked a few to point us to some of their favorite posts of the election season. Here's what they shared mixed with some fun ones we decided to throw in:

Keyboard_45_john_rost_blogger_2 A Keyboard and a .45: John Rost of Arlington (left) usually devotes his blog to gun rights' issues. No surprise then that one of his most popular posts was on the Castle Doctrine bill Texas passed in 2007. Also still getting hits is the interview he conducted with California Rep. Duncan Hunter when he was gunning (sorry, had to be done) for the GOP nomination for president. More recently, Rost made his case as to why his readers should support John McCain.

Liberally Lean from the Land of Dairy Queen: Barry Green of Decatur really really likes posting funny photos of blonds in skimpy clothing. Just go to the blog and you can find them on your own (ok, ok, here's one). As far as political posts go, he began a post about one of the McCain/Obama debates with "I could strangle both of them. Neither can answer a question."

The Idiot Speaketh: Mark Pakulak of Runaway Bay has written so many posts mocking Sarah Palin, he doesn't know what he'll blog about if McCain isn't elected president. He is particularly proud that this post is currently the third to come up when you Google "sarah palin" and "idiot."

Patterson_blogger_whited  The Whited Sepulchre: Allen Patterson of Fort Worth (left) mixes religion and and a libertarian view of politics on his blog. This post on why Patterson thinks Christians haven't fully thought through what would happen if biology teachers started teaching creationism caught lots of interest. So did this post on Barack Obama's religion. More recently, he dissected and mocked Obama's 30-minute infomercial.

Who's Playin?: Steve Southwell of Lewisville leads a team of writers on his political blog. Locally, he's heavily involved in the Denton County Democratic Party. Among his favorite posts was  this one about a flap involving that county's GOP party chair and another where he delivers a lengthy defense for universal healthcare.

All you North Texas bloggers planning to blog your hearts out tomorrow can send links of your posts to me at abatheja (at) star-telegram.com. They may get included in an Election Day blog roundup.
