AUSTIN - While the race for Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison's U.S. Senate seat loads up with new candidates by the day, you can scratch State Comptroller Susan Comb's name from the list. The state's chief financial officer, elected in 2006, tells PoliTex that she's got plenty of work left to do in her current job and has no intention of joining the growing list of contenders seeking to run for the Senate, governor or any other post in the next round of state elections in 2010.
"Nope. N-O-P-E. Nope,'' the Republican official said during a recent visit in her office when asked about a possible job switch. "I've got a great job. What's not to love about this job?" Asked if that means she'll seek re-election as comptroller, Combs added emphatically: "Oh yes. I made that real clear."
