Are you an enviromentalist who hates waiting in line?
Then you may find yourself conflicted by a bill proposed by State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.
The San Antonio Democrat wants to add a step to the retail buying process in Texas. At the checkout line, if a customer doesn't already have reusable bags to carry their purchases, the bill would require that the checkout clerk tries to sell the customer a reusable bag before resorting to using plastic bags.
Van de Putte also wants to require businesses that use plastic bags to sell reusable bags "at a reasonable price" and operate a plastic bag recycling program.
Businesses that don't comply with these rules would be fined.
