For the record, a Jewish member of the Texas House has been elected as speaker once before.
But it was 170 years ago,
He was David S. Kaufman -- as in the city and county.
Both Kaufman and the family of current Alamo Heights Republican contender Joe Straus came to Texas from Pennsylvania.
