Betty Buckley on the Webber Idol
OMG, I sent Betty Buckley an e-mail this morning asking for her thoughts on Jason Castro's take on Memory, the song she sang in the original Broadway Cats cast, for which she won a Tony. I thought she wouldn't answer in time, because her mom Betty Bob Buckley (we here in North Texas know the Broadway Betty as "Betty Lynn") told me that Betty Lynn was in Australia last week filming a mini-series (more on that at the end of this post).
Here's what La Buckley had to say about last night's Idol, to which she is addicted, she has told me previously:
"Saw Idol. I like that kid that sang "Memory" [Jason Castro] -- but odd song for him to pick. Wish Carly had sung it. And the fact that he hadn't bothered to get any of the background of the song -- so easily available on the internet. But the funniest was Andrew allowing people to change his music! He was always such a stickler that every note had to be sung exactly as he wrote it. I loved David Archuleta's arrangement which clearly wasn't what Andrew would have preferred but he went along with it. I loved his expressions after the performances! Made me laugh so hard."
And, here's what she said about the TV project:
"I am filming an HBO mini-series called "The Pacific" executive produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. I have a good little cameo in the tenth and final episode. I play the Mother of one of the soldiers returning from WW2."
You go Miss Grizabella. FYI, Betty Lynn is also in the new M. Night Shyamalan movie The Happening, opening June 13.
