Maybe this Tyne

TyneWow, this is pretty big -- no, make that HUGE -- casting news for a small Dallas theater company, especially for a staged reading.

Echo Theatre, the decade-old group that only produces scripts by women, has a popular staged reading series called Echo Reads. They've snagged a big name, Tyne Daly, to join their reading of Raelle and Neil Tucker's play Oil! Apparently, the Tuckers and Daly go way back, and they're trying to rework the 1978 script. They wanted to hear a reading, with women in the audience, and in Texas. So, there we have it.

The readings, which also feature local actors Bradley Campbell, Vickie Washington, Ashley Wood and Lydia Mackay, are 7:30 p.m. June 5 and 6 at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive, on the shores of White Rock Lake. It's free, but reservations are encouraged for this one. Call 214-904-0500 or e-mail echoreservations@att.net.

-- Mark Lowry, whose first show to see on Broadway was the 1989 revival of Gypsy, starring Tyne Daly as Mama Rose. (She won her Tony for that).
