McCain and Obama: celebrity playlists

This is actually a couple of weeks old, but I tripped across it on MSNBC's The Scoop today, so I don't feel bad about late posting: Blender.com asked presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama for their top 10 songs. I like several titles on both lists, but I wonder why neither picked the one in the clip below. -- Robert Philpot

Mag snags rare pic of McConaughey with shirt

Actually, OK magazine (via E! online) boasts a cover photo of Matt's kid. But hey, it's a twofer.

Update: Here is the full text of the OK! article, which has many amusing comments from McConaughey.

Happy Wednesday morning

Radar magazine has terrifically brought together two wonderful things - Mad Libs and Ira Glass. The magazine which, like this blogger, has a total crush on the This American Life host, gives a series of questions, which, when answered, generates a Mad Libs from the perspective of the show. It is awesome. That is all.

Do the wave

Vfcover Vanity Fair does its latest bit on Hollywood's next wave featuring, not surprisingly, a lot of Gossip Girl girls -- and guys -- among other people. Representing North Texas are two Plano dudes: Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford (who has good taste in girl crushes) and Weeds' Hunter Parrish.

Picture of one of my former bosses doing one-armed push-ups

Yes, I admit it's self-indulgent of me to post this item from D Magazine's Front Burner blog. I'm firmly convinced that Eric is standing up and that the camera was held sideways, although I'm not sure how they got the sofa to hang there like that.

I spy a list

... from an atypical source: In honor of the big-screen Get Smart (which we don't honor), Popular Mechanics counts down the 10 best spy gadgets in movies. Glad to see Our Man Flint made the list.

Entertainment Weekly hits the 1,000-issue mark

Cvr1000 And I think approximately 996 of them are on shelves in my office or at home (OK, that's an exaggeration -- it's more like 975). And what would the 1,000 issue of Entertainment Weekly be without lists? (And there's more where that came from.)

What's bad news for TV Guide is good news for Entertainment Weekly

I'm not sure I'm exaggerating when I say that TV Guide's Michael Ausiello is the best TV-beat reporter working right now. I've linked several times to the things he's uncovered from his aggressive work chatting up TV stars and producers, and yet he reports it all with a light, frequently funny touch that has had an influence on my own writing. If you click his name, you'll find he's moving to Entertainment Weekly, which I'm sure will love to have him and his passion for television. And I have to give TVGuide.com credit for reporting on his exit to the competition.

Them's rib-breaking words

Texas Monthly has named its Top 50 barbecue joints in Texas (love the headline), and only one Tarrant County spot -- Cousin's -- has made the cut. Start jawin' now -- what about Angelo's? Railhead? Riscky's? Others I don't have time to mention?
