The Air Line Pilots Association outlined its priorities for 2009 today, nothing that pilot fatigue, safety reporting programs and screening for flight crews were top concerns for the union.
Union officials said a recent poll indicated that 63 percent of member pilots had fatigue problems.
"No industry was hit harder by the 9/11 terrorist attacks than the
U.S.
airline industry,” said Capt. John Prater, the president's union. "To keep our airlines in business, pilots made major contract concessions, which resulted in many of our members working at or near-regulatory limits for flight- and duty-time.”
ALPA is the union for Delta, United and several other major airlines, including regional carrier American Eagle. American Airlines is represented by the Allied Pilots Association, while Southwest pilots are members of the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association.
