Lawmakers introduce bill to ban cell phones in skies
Dave Montgomery of the Star-Telegram's Washington bureau reports the campaign to restrict the use of cell phones is spreading to the skies. Three lawmakers, including Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Ill., chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, want to ban the use of in-flight cell phones with a bill appropriately entitled ``The HANG UP Act.''
The lawmakers are afraid the United States may try to emulate the European Union, which began allowing passengers to use cell-phones while thier plane is in the air. HANG UP, incidentally, is an an acronym for a longer title - Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace Act.
