Storms here, fires in West Texas

It seems strange to talk about wildfires when tornado warnings are being issued around here but wildfires are continuing to burn in West Texas. The Kentwood fire, near Big Spring, has threatened 200 structures, the Texas Forest said.

Storms still possible later tonight

Even though the sun is shining across much of Tarrant County, forecasters say more storms could form this evening. A tornado watch continues until 9 p.m. The cold front that is expected to bring cooler temperatures won't reach the Metroplex until close to sunrise tomorrow morning.

Wall cloud rotating near Frisco

Channel 8 has video of a wall cloud hovering near Frisco. But no reports of any tornadoes.

Line of storms appear to be moving eastern part of the Metroplex

The severe line of storms appears to be moving into Dallas, Denton and Ellis counties. The National Weather Service had said the line of storms would shift eastward as the afternoon progressed.

Wreck stalls traffic on Airport Freeway

Bryon Okada reports that traffic is slow-going on northbound Airport Freeway just outside of downtown Fort Worth because an SUV is sitting on its side, blocking two lanes. It appears the one-vehicle wreck is weather related.

Storms pound Godley

No official confirmation of a tornado on the ground, but a person who answered the phone at the Godley Volunteer Fire Department said that two houses and one mobile home have been damaged by the storm.

The homes belonged to two Godley volunteer firefighters, said a person who identified herself as Camie Mercer, the 14-year-daughter of Fire Chief Gary Mercer.

A trailer home was also knocked over, she said.

All the department’s firefighters were out at a call, she said.

Hail the size of ping pong balls spotted in Burleson

Hail about 1.5 inches in diameter or about the size of ping pong balls was reported in Burleson at 3:26 p.m. One-inch-diameter hail was reported in Lewisville in Denton County at 3:31 p.m. Keep track of the latest activity on the National Weather Service's storm reports map.
