A collision of cold mountain air and warm Gulf air

Tonight_threatWe won't be the only ones on storm watch today and tonight. Powerful storms are expected across a wide swatch of southern and central Plains states. Tomorrow, the system is expected to sweep across the South.

AccuWeather reports that the strongest storms will develop from Texas through Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The storms will be fueled in the same way as many of the systems that have flowed out of the Rocky Mountains in recent weeks. The cold air dropping out of the high country will collide with the warm moist air flowing north from the Gulf of Mexico, with additional fuel provided by strong jet stream winds and plenty of daytime heating.
