Lakes are full from this week's rains

The rains have impacted area lakes. All of the Tarrant Regional Water District lakes, are above normal except Lake Bridgeport. The water district provides drinking water to Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield and a number of other muncipalities. Full lakes mean the area's water supply is in good shape entering this summer. But it can be too much of a good thing. Last year, many lakes were closed to boaters because of high lake levels. Other North Texas lakes are also faring well. Lake Lavon, near Wylie in Collin County, became the poster child for the drought two years ago when it became little more than a muddy stream. It is now 5 feet above normal. That lake helps supply bustling Dallas suburbs like Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Garland, Rockwall and Richardson.

Lancaster urges residents to evacuate one neighborhood

In Lancaster, officials called 687 phone numbers along Tenmile Creek. The city cannot force people to evacuate, but advised people to leave the 16-block subdivision that runs for about a mile along the creek, said Lancaster city spokesman Ciciely Hickmon.

"The creek has reached the limits of its banks. We wanted to let people know."

Hickmon said city officials do not believe floodwaters have reached any of the homes but officials are concerned that more storms tonight could make the waters rise further. Hickmon also said that Lancaster officials conducted several high-water rescues and also assisted several people in leaving their homes. In neighboring Desoto, police said no neighborhoods were evacuated.
