High school hockey league canceled

The AT&T High School Hockey League has cancelled all its varsity games scheduled for Thursday night because of the winter weather. Keith Andresen, senior director of hockey programs, said the games will not be rescheduled. The hockey regular season ends on March 20. ``It's too late in the season for them to be rescheduled," Andresen said. ``There's no place to put them now. Since all varsity teams make the playoffs, it won't affect teams making the playoffs. It might just affect their placement." Andresen said the league told coaches in the fall that it would be at the league's discretion to reschedule games because of weather. In the past, weather cancellations have happened earlier in the season, allowing games to be rescheduled. Andresen, who also coaches Hurst/Euless/Bedford (5-15-1), said a week off might benefit teams because the playoffs start in April.    ``It gives players a break," he said. ``A night of throwing snowballs or making a snowman isn't a bad thing for a kid." All Dr Pepper StarCenters are scheduled to close at 5 p.m. Thursday. - Kelly Morris
